Doing Something About It, Inc (DSAI) is looking for volunteers to take part in an important community empowerment program - Tutoring Executed by Acquiring Community Help - T.E.A.C.H.
Welcome to Tutoring Executed by Acquiring Community Help, TE.A.C.H., where we offer a vital community education support system for children aged 5 to 18, especially during back-to-school transitions and the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Established in February 2019, TE.A.C.H. was re-imagined to address the pressing need for tutoring assistance during school closures.
At TE.A.C.H., we understand that not all families have the means to access tutoring services. That's why our program is specifically tailored for communities facing financial constraints. In the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, we've adopted a "village approach" to tutoring, leveraging the collective support of parents, friends, and community associates through online platforms like Zoom.
Our virtual tutoring program offers students the extra help they need in a safe, convenient environment. With one-on-one interaction with qualified tutors, students can complete and understand their assignments without leaving the safety of their homes, free from exposure to harmful germs.
TE.A.C.H. is committed to ensuring that every child has access to the educational support they need to thrive, regardless of their financial circumstances or the challenges posed by the pandemic. Join us in shaping a brighter future for our children through the power of community and education.
OPERATION: The T.E.A.C.H. program will host multiple one-hour tutoring sessions during these specific time-frames; Monday thru Friday, 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., and Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. There is a maximum of three students per session to ensure that each individual gets the attention he / she needs. DSAI Inc. will match the student(s) with a qualified volunteer based on the student’s educational needs and the volunteer’s background or area of expertise. Accordingly, a T.E.A.C.H. administrator will issue each student a Zoom ID and password, with additional information pertaining to the date and time of the tutoring session.
SAFETY: DSAI, Inc. is not only committed to the growth and stability of our community, but also to the safety and well-being of our community’s children. All of the T.E.A.C.H. volunteers are committed to teaching and mentoring our children. Each volunteer must complete a simple one-page questionnaire which provides the necessary information and authorization to conduct a basic background check. The T.E.A.C.H. tutor must pass the background check prior to interacting with any student enrolled in the DSAI, Inc tutoring program. DSAI Inc. will provide the student with the tutor’s name, description, and an authentication password to confirm the tutor’s identity. Parental consent is required for any student who participates in the T.E.A.C.H. program; and, the student’s parent or guardian will be informed of the scheduled session and be invited to observe, as applicable.
GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY: For high school students who want to go to college, your volunteer work with DSAI, Inc. will help to stand among the distinguished. Colleges value students who take the lead in improving their communities through volunteer work. It takes a village, is not just a statement. When the community works together for the benefit of our children, they contribute to a better tomorrow.
BEING PROACTIVE STARTS WITH YOU - We need your help:
1. We need people in our community to make sure that every student and parent is aware that extra school help is available and it doesn’t cost anything, except for their time and a willingness to learn and excel. Spread the word!
2. We need volunteers who care about our children and want to make a positive difference in children’s lives. Become a T.E.A.C.H. program volunteer. Give us at least one hour, of one day, of your week. We believe this is the beginning of a great relationship working towards one goal…taking care of our children and their future.
3. At least a high school diploma or GED equivalent is required. Volunteers should also have an interest in teaching the required material. High school students, high school graduates, college students, parents, family, friends, relatives, and community associates; anybody and everybody can help build brighter futures for our children through DSAI’s T.E.A.C.H. program.
